Most women think leaking is just a normal part of ageing, but it can be fixed

Bladder and bowel problems are rarely discussed and so it is easy to feel that you are the only person that has a problem. I’m Debbie Kehoe, a pelvic health physiotherapist helping women to stop letting these problems get in the way of life.

I’m Debbie, a qualified pelvic health physiotherapist

Since starting my journey into pelvic health in 2012, I have also become the mum to two amazing boys. Becoming a mum has made me understand more than ever the variety of issues that women can face throughout their lifetime from pre-natal, pregnancy, postnatal, to perimenopause.

I continue to work part-time as a clinical specialist in the NHS and have since started my own private clinic in November 2023.

My aim is to provide a truly holistic approach to assessment and treatment and by working together we will work towards achieving your goals.

“It’s normal for women to leak, isn’t this just the way it is?”

I hear this a lot and whilst these problems are common, I’m here to tell you that you shouldn’t have to put up with the pain, discomfort and embarrassment that they cause!

Physiotherapy for bladder and bowel dysfunction

Approximately 1 in 3 women in the UK suffer from incontinence and it is estimated in the UK that 6.5 million people suffer from a bowel condition and 1- 10% of adults are affected by faecal incontinence (NICE, 2017). Worldwide about 40% of women will experience pelvic organ prolapse and this is expected to increase with the ageing population.

Pelvic floor physiotherapy focuses on a holistic approach to pelvic health problems by tailoring a specific exercise programme, which can include management of diet, fluid and lifestyle advice.
